ROLODEX OF TRANSMUTATIONS
This project was part of my final year thesis workshop that takes a different look at the concepts explored in GOOD COMMS. To iterate on communication breakdown from GOOD COMMS, I decided to explore how communication change can be a necessary outcome from communication breakdown.
I printed each letter form using a laser printer on rough surfaced heavyweight paper stock. This combination allowed me to manually scrape, smudge, use tape to "copy and paste," ink, etc, the toner since it wasn't fully adhered to the stock. I made small to large changes and generated a scan for every "frame." These were then processed into a collection of compositions and sequences.
Communication change can be a necessary outcome from communication breakdown. Sometimes our way of communicating no longer serves our needs as an individual, within our relationships with our peers, family, between nations, cultures, races, and religions. Each form of distress to these letters is analogous for the many ways we can modulate form, expression, and context in spoken and visual communication.
